Challenge oceans
The campaign to send an #insulinpowered sailor around the world. Non-stop. Alone. Because somebody has to go first.
around alone FOr every
diabetic
Our mission is to use singlehanded endurance sailing as a high visibility platform, with international reach, to:
1) Test and share progressive nutrition, fitness and management approaches for diabetes using the journey as a 24/7 "laboratory"
2) Partner with industry and harness crowdsourcing to innovate, build, and validate new diabetes management technologies
3) Create regionally relevant audience engagement as the boat sails through diabetes "hot zones" around the world

The route is an east-about circumnavigation starting in Toronto, Canada; the birthplace of #insulin and home to its discoverer, Sir Frederick Banting.
The journey proceeds toward NYC; crosses the Atlantic to the Canary Islands; sails south around the Cape of Good Hope; through the Southern Ocean to Australia; around Cape Horn; and turns home again to finish in NYC.

it takes a team
The Challenge Oceans campaign isn't just about sailing. It's about using an uninterrupted journey, through harsh conditions, while contained in a technical "bubble" as a living laboratory in which to conceive, test, and share progressive ideas and solutions for managing diabetes.
Likewise, sailing around-the-world alone is a metaphor of self-reliance and freedom for diabetics who may feel tethered to their medications and support networks.
We can't do it alone. It takes a village. And we're starting to build one. If you have skills and interest to lend, we'd like to hear from you. Some key roles we seek are: Technology Development Lead, Endochrinologist, Nutritionist, Kinesiologist, Engineering Advisor, Content & Engagement Manager, Tactician, and Coach.

the logo
That might look like Poseidon, but it's actually our bearded skipper holding the trident. The prongs of the trident represent the multiple insulin injections he takes each day to stay alive.
the mascot
Meet Tau. His name stands for The Absolute Unit. As in unit of insulin. In ancient times the symbol 'tau' represented life and resurrection, just as insulin gives a new lease on life to diabetics.
